The big
day, the moment of truth, our fate for the next 12 weeks...call it what you
like, the allocation of one UK team leader with one Indian team leader was a
big deal for us all. As a pair we will be spending the coming 12 weeks in a
village where we will project manage a series of health or veterinary camps as
well as running sanitation education programs and building eco-sanitation or
bio gas units. The project promises to be an intense and exciting 12 weeks,
therefore it was essential for us to be placed with the right partner.
The
suspense was high when Paul, Mark and Eleri came to break the news to us on
Tuesday morning. Little more than half an hour later our fates were sealed and
we were all sat happily with our new partners and being told about our project
sites.
The
partners in crime are:
Lou and
Ajit - Working
in Mydanahalli, Karnataka
Holly and
Boops - Working in Kannagre, Tamil Nadu
Philip and
Chandru - Working in Mauvalam, Tamil Nadu
Rob and
Sunil - Working in Shamboganahalli,
Karnataka
Roz and
Vishnu - Working in Hossety, Tamil Nadu
Gavin and
Shivu - Working in Pura, Karnataka
To
celebrate we have been to visit the palace at Mysore in between training on
Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), community health and finance.
On Sunday
of this week we will depart in our pairs to visit our project sites for the
first time. There we will find our accommodation and begin assessing the
village by meeting the village leader, Panchayat member and members of self
help groups. I would say the hard work begins on Sunday but that would be
misleading, trust me when I say the hard work has already begun.
It may be hard work but sounds so exciting. Good luck to you all.
