2nd phase has now begun! After many weekends of
training we can finally put it to use. So far we have built 10 vermi-compost units
out of the 40 we aim to build. A vermi-compost uses vermi worms to create
compost out of most waste, this will give the vegetables and herbs grown in
their kitchen gardens (which we will also provide as a part of our secondary
project) better nutritional value, giving the villagers a more varied diet as
malnutrition is a big problem here. We are slowly establishing stronger
relations with the shy Paniyan tribal people of our village, through farmer
club meetings and women’s meetings which we hope to eventually turn into a SHG
(Self Help Group). We hope that with the SHG will help empower the women,
giving them advice and training on how to save money, starting micro businesses
and general awareness of women’s issues i.e. maternity health etc. Soon we will
be visiting the school once or twice a week to hold sports days and education
and health awareness lessons. And finally we will be holding one general health
camp at the end of this phase. So we’re
all go!
Lots of love to our friends and families from India Charlie
