5 weeks into our programme and IR5 are really
feeling at home in DP doddy. We have been welcomed into their community with a
special ceremony, and been to and from each village plenty of times to chat to
the villagers and learn about how the area has evolved. We also held a sports day for the local
school children this week, which was a really good way to get to know the kids
as well as a lot of fun for them and for us! It also gave us a perfect
opportunity to share our health awareness lessons, focusing on hand washing
and dental hygiene.
A highlight of the past couple of weeks has
been a health camp we held on March 3rd in collaboration with IR3
and IR4; all 3 teams enjoyed working together and giving almost 300 locals
access to healthcare. It is a really
tangible result of our work here and we are proud to have been a part of it.
As a team, we have been thinking and talking about
our mums a lot recently and we would like to wish them all a very happy mothers
day and tell them how much we miss them. We've met some really inspirational women in our villages and it is a
constant reminder of the women who inspire us at home; without our mothers none
of us would be here having this incredible experience. We hope you all know how much we love and
appreciate you. Next week we will begin
construction – double helpings of porridge for everyone!

ReplyDeleteHi, you are now 5 weeks in and 5 weeks from coming home. I'm sure you still have lots to do. The vet camps sound just down your street hope you can use some of what you have learnt else where.
Things from home, Miles had all the space in the bed on his Birthday but I think he did miss having someone to fight with. Birthday cake was the Oxford Cambridge boat race from last year with man( jelly baby in fact many jelly babies - had to use the pack up ) swimming between them. Jelly babies are a bit fat for fitting in a row boat and not the right colours, but it was enjoyed down at the boat house while they took the boats apart as Miles and crew rowed the Schools Head on the Thurs (the boat race course but backwards! cos of the tide) 71st of 300. 2nd in his year group and same time as year above.
Mothers day on Sun Dad did breakfast - Miles not up, but he made me a card, Claire brought a cake she had made ( had to trim it as burnt a bit) but then dropped it on the drive icing down!!!!So we picked it up cut off the gravel and leaves and re-iced it and ate it at half time of the rugby! it wasn't bad at all, and England just won against Italy, final match next week England / Wales winner takes the 6 nations title.
First night of Miss Saigon last night went well. Only one lost costume and Kim could not shoot herself- gun didn't go off - Nick using a starter pistol he tried 3 times.Helicopter looks great it does come down and go up again and the car is back again.
Hope the rest of the run goes as smoothly !
Everyone here is well.
Thinking of you lots but presume you are so busy you don't have time to think of us very much.
You are doing a great job are you are keeping a diary so you can tell us all about it when you get home. Expect a blog from your group at some point soon it will be good to see.
Love and hugs keep smiling,
Mum Dad Miles Claire and Hugh xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
