INDIA ROMEO 5
Hello from IR5 in DP Doddi!
This past week has
been all about construction, renovating cowsheds in DP Doddi and Noorondaswarmy
Pura as well as finishing off plastering Azolla Pits and Vermi Composts. Working with masons and beneficiaries that
speak limited or no English has made us learn more Kannada and handy
gestures. From this our relationship
with the villagers is much stronger and we are offered Chai on a daily basis!
Yum!
Litter is scattered
everywhere in India so as part of our secondary projects we decided a clean-up
would be an effective and hands-on way to tackle this problem. We spent Sunday morning in Noorondaswarmy
Pura collecting and burning rubbish in a small pit that we dug. We filled around twenty buckets, making areas
visibly cleaner and better, though it was obvious that it would take several
days to clean the whole village, even if there are only sixteen houses!
Our last few weeks
will consist of completing the construction and a further project of painting
educational murals on the small school in Chikkananndi. We are making the most of our time with the
villagers and the beautiful scenery which, even though we’re looking forward to
seeing everyone at home, we will all miss very much.
