Rob and I were lucky enough to visit this quaint little village in the Nilgiri Mountains, where we were superbly looked after by the group of IC6. A warm welcome with flower garlands by the villagers, followed by a 2 hour trek up a stunning mountainside with breathtaking views of the rolling tea plantation hills. The children of the village managed to outrun us the whole way up, putting us to shame...not to mention with no shoes!! A morning jog and freshen up in the stream was followed by some health awareness training by myself - getting the team ready for their preparation of health camps over the next few weeks.
It was a short visit after their little moment of respite back at field base but we left on a high after having a farewell song sung to us, with Raji (a professional dancer and singer) leading the way.
Enjoy and Namaskara for now, Lucy (Medic)

ReplyDeleteHi Annabelle,
Looks like you are having a great time. Enjoy and learn as much as you can. Watch out for snakes in the tea plantations.

ReplyDeleteHi,
Assume you are back out in your village, hope the time back in base camp was good, but returning to your village felt good - going home.
Its difficult to comment on any thing as we are getting so little info about what any of the groups in India are doing, which is a great shame as so many people have asked what you are doing !!
Gardening and Miss Saigon rehearsals this weekend just gone, weather dry but ground still not dried out for first, and as usual the weekend before dress rehearsal chaos and lots to do for the latter. Emma Lord and Catlin Abbey flapping and would not listen to instructions they were so rude, and I had to walk away from them, they got a bollocking from Helen then they came back and apologised - first time for every thing.... Cut my thumb to day in the middle of a major change so was holding it to stop it bleeding while tying headdresses! not easy.
Getting ready for Miles birthday tomorrow just put his cake in the oven 8pm will be decorating it at midnight.
He is rowing the boat race course ( but the other way ) on Thurs, will go and watch him.
Claire moved to main hospital today, should see her and Alex tomorrow for Miles Birthday tea, sausage plait he wants a whole one to himself.. Hope your food is good and you are writing down some recipes. And work to food ratio is the right way round.or are you getting round.
How is the weather... I do keep checking it seems to be creeping up,defiantly hotter than I thought it would be, so hope you have hardened off a bit and are ok.
Will keep writing and hope to hear more from the project in general.
Love and Hugs.

ReplyDeleteHi, hope you are well. Hope you are enjoying the weather (not burning though). Its rubbish here still- had frost yesterday! Looks like you are working hard, hope you have had some traveling time- looking forward to seeing your pictures! People at hockey were asking after you as well. I started on the stroke unit this week so lots of learning for me in the next few weeks! Alex has an interview is Costa tomorrow so I'm hoping for free coffees. Hope you are enjoying the food and learning some recipes. Alex and I went to a sri lankan restaurant in London which was amazing and just like what I had when I was there. hope to hear from you/ see a blog from your group soon!
Lots of Love Claire (and Alex) xxx
Greetings from SC!
ReplyDeleteThis is Graham here.
We got your postcard – it was lovely to hear from you. I hope you’re well? Avoiding dysentery and all other ailments etc.
Pictures look lovely and definitely inspiring me to visit India (though not to build latrines, or to sleep on a floor, I don't think that's for me). I imagine it's very very hot. I just got back from Finland where it was -17 on a few days. On the ‘very scale’ that's very very very very very cold.
The UK is cold and grey, as ever, so I hope you have lots of sunshine and few monsoons.
Katie says hello. She still never makes tea either, it's always down to me. You know what it’s like here.
We've had far fewer cups of tea since you've gone. I'm borderline medically tea-deficient.
Do you get to pick the PG tips straight off the bushes in India?
