Hello from India Romeo 11

Nearing the end and we, Romeo 11, have really thrown ourselves into the construction work, receiving a crash course in Indian masonry. Every day on site poses new challenges and new lessons to be learnt, but fantastic progress has been made. We are now half way through the construction, and with the whole team getting stuck in, we should be finished in no time.
Encouraged by our progress on site, we have spent lots of time putting together lesson plans to teach to children in neighboring schools. One of our nearest schools, in Assanur (still 30minutes away) has over 400 pupils between the ages of 12 and 16, we look forward to teaching some lessons there. In this phase we have given lessons on food hygiene, nutrition, and child labor, with many more in the pipeline.
Our progress with the tooth brushing club is still going strong. We aim to develop the project further by approaching more schools with the awareness lesson and tooth brushing club model. We will be investing in more supplies in an aim to maximize the interest of the children in the area, increasing the sustainability of the project.
This week, Larry, Pavan Kumar, and Sarah travelled to Arepalayam to visit the Gram Panchayat president (head of the local government), in an effort to gain information on his role in local governance, and also to ask him some questions around our secondary projects. While there, they informed him that the local school’s water purification system was faulty, he has agreed to have it fixed or replaced. Our village sign proposal also took a huge leap forward, with a location being agreed with the Gram Panchayat, great work guys!
As we enter our final phase, we hope to wrap up our construction work, reach out to more people through our awareness lessons, and also start our secondary project construction work. Before we leave, we are also hoping to take a family photo for each of the village families, and to present them as a gift upon our departure… but let’s not dwell on leaving just yet!
Hope everyone back home is well, and the new Pope has settled in. Lots of love…
Alan, Annie, Bimogen, Rajesh, Vinayanna, Sazza, Thom, Ramesh, Mr Nagesh, Pavan, Larry, Romeo Rahul and Lara!
Hugs and kisses x
